Cooking our own produce

In Colchester Class we grew our broad beans in the poly-tunnel, watered and nurtured them.

We harvested them, and, as a class, decided what we would make out of them.

After a very lengthy discussion of 'oos' and 'yacks', it was decided that a Courgette and Broad Bean Rice Salad with lemon and lime vinaigrette dressing was the choice.

Some of us had not tasted broad beans before, but, after some persuasion, thought, 'Yes, they are OK!', and would eat them again. :)

Donnington Golf

Donnington Class enjoyed a golf lesson at Donnington Grove with their golf pro Tom Fleming. Donnington Class were taught the basics of golf including how to drive on the driving range and how to putt on the putting green. It was the first time everyone in the class had experienced ‘proper golf’ and they all had a fantastic time.

Donnington Grove are going to be offering a 6 week course of golf coaching with Tom starting on 3rd June for £25. If you are interested in attending or would like to find out more you can contact Alan Leason at alan.leason@btopenworld.com

Skipton's Lush day out

Skipton Class had a wonderful trip to Lush this week. They had great fun learning how to make soaps. They were all excellent and concentrated really hard - as you can see from the pictures. Great work guys :-)

Tintagel's Wonderful Pottery

Over the few months Tintagel Class have been designing and creating their own pottery items. We have made a selection of mugs, bowls and decorative items. We used a range of techniques to create the basic shapes. We then added decoration by drawing into the damp clay. After the items were glazed we painted them. When the items have been glazed and fired we will be able to share the finished results. We have enjoyed this unit of work and have worked hard to create some fab shapes and designs.

Cricket lovely Cricket!

Tintagel Class and members of Post-16  attended cricket coaching with Nigel from No Limits Sport.

Nigel helped everyone to learn how to bat and bowl with increasing accuracy. Everyone loved the sessions and became very competitive (even the staff)! It was great as it not only helped us improve our skills but also to work and play as a team.

Golfing fun at Donnington Grove

Tintagel Class were lucky enough to be offered a golf lesson at Donnington Grove Golf Course. They were taught how to hold the club and how to stand correctly. They spend time practising their driving and putting. Everyone worked hard during the lesson and improved. It was a great morning which everyone really enjoyed.

Windsor Horse Show

On the 11th of June Balmoral class were lucky enough to be invited to the Royal Windsor Horse Show! Emily and Ethan were chosen as the representatives from our class to ride. Just before our riding category we spotted a very important person in the crowd - The Queen! She had come to see one of her horses compete.

The theme for our category this year was 'films' - we chose to dress up as characters from Alice in Wonderland. Some of the other entries included Toy Story, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and 101 Dalmatians. A lot of hard word had gone into the costumes and we had a wonderful time admiring all of the ponies. Emily and Ethan came 5th overall and each won a beautiful pink rosette to take home.

We must extend a huge thank you to Ursula and all of our wonderful RDA ladies for inviting us to be part of the show this year.
