Sport Relief - what a total!

Our Castle Community really pulled together in aid of Sport Relief last week. Lots of activities took place culminating in mass group dancing in town and at Love Lane. Pupils, staff, parents and even member of the public joined in. It was a really wonderful community event.

Most astonishingly is that, thanks to Hannah Daniel's superb organisation and the commitment of our school community, we managed to raise a whopping.....

This incredible total will go straight to Sport Relief to help in their projects. You can click here to find out more about what Sport Relief does http://www.sportrelief.com/

Here is a picture of the dancing at Love Lane. We hope to have a video shortly so you can see the enthusiasm of the dancers!

Boccia team news

On Wednesday 16th March The Castle School represented West Berkshire in a Boccia tournament. Marcos, Ciara and Harry worked hard in the Secondary squad. Ciara captained the secondary team well; Marcos showed skillful aim and Harry's blocking technique worked wonders. Jonny, Oliver and Adam made up the 3 players for the Primary team. Jonny had expert aim, Oliver had a good use of blocking shots and Adam was a fabulous captain. A massive well done to both teams J

Debating Brexit!

On Friday last week, Richard Benyon MP kindly spent some time with Lancaster and Tintagel Classes to put both sides of the EU debate. We are very keen at The Castle School to develop the understanding of politics and political issues amongst out students. Some of our young people will be able to vote in the forthcoming EU referendum and we felt that it is very pertinent to get them involved in a debate. Discussions were excellent and many views were put forward. Please see below some pictures of the interesting and informative debate:

WOW! What an event

On Friday 11th March we held our second World of Work (WOW) event at The Castle School Post-16 Centre. The event was amazing to say the very least. It was supported by a rich variety of employers who have supported us over the last few years to ensure that our pupils and students have access to high quality work placements in order to develop their key skills for employment.

We are very thankful to all the employers who supported the event and have supported over the past few years. We are very excited about all we have got planned for the future and very much look forward to working alongside even more employers in the future.

The event was also attended by Richard Benyon MP, The Mayor of Newbury Howard Bairstow and Rachel Wardell, Corporate Dirtector for Communities at West Berkshire Council amongst many others.

Rachel Wardell tweeted: I was available to attend the “World of Work Celebration” at The Castle School. See my @WardellR Twitter account for some pictures from this event which was inspirational. I was impressed to see so many different employers represented there who had all found suitable work for young people whose additional needs might otherwise have been a barrier to employment.

Here are some pictures of the event:

World Book Day cont/d......

Classes have also been busy decorating their classroom doors with all things literary. Have a look at all the wonderful work they have produced below. Post-16 pupils worked collaboratively to produce work linked to the book "The Fox and The Star". A picture of their creation is also below

A Wonderful World Book Day

On Thursday this week it was World Book Day - a chance to celebrate all that is brilliant about books and reading. Our staff and pupils excelled, as always, in the outfits they dressed up. All manner of literary characters could be seen on the day. Have look below at some pictures of the day:
